Smartphone users’ thirst for news growing

The number of smartphone users who use their devices to keep up with the latest news has jumped by 74 per cent in the past year.

comScore, measurer of the global digital world, found that, in the five biggest economies in Europe, including the UK, nearly 37 per cent of owners of such phones had viewed news content either via an app or browser in the past year.

Growing even faster is the number of users who get news on their phones on a near-daily basis, at 82 per cent year-on-year.

And the UK led the way in having the highest proportion of smartphone users (46 per cent) who reported having accessed at least one news site in the past month.
