Digital savvy kids love taking their tablets

We've long known that technology is changing the face of childhood; but it seems that it has been given a new impetus by the arrival of tablet computers.
Market research company Nielsen has questioned households with children under 12, and found that seven out of 10 of youngsters who are brought up by parents who own tablet devices have used them themselves.
That is a rise from six out of 10 when the same question was asked three months earlier, according to Reuters news agency.
More than three-quarters of the parents surveyed (77 per cent) said they let their children use their tablets to play downloaded games. Another encouraging figure was the near six out of 10 who said children liked using a tablet to access educational apps.
Unsurprisingly, the tablet is also becoming a must on long journeys, with more than half of parents (55 per cent) saying their children liked using the devices while they were travelling. The biggest proportion of children (43 per cent) who have used them in these circumstances do so for watching films or TV programmes, Nielsen found.
