Yahoo has today announced the launch of a customised search facility focusing on iPhone and Android smartphone apps.
Using keywords and search terms in the same way as any search engine, the app search facility will crawl a database of more than half a million officially sanctioned apps for either of the two dominant smartphone operating platforms.
As well as being filtered by device, searches can be further refined by whether they are free or paid-for, and category.
Screenshots and an overall star rating, based on user feedback, will also be contained in the results.
The listings also include featured rankings, such as top free and paid-for apps, and those which have been garnering the most reviews.
James Gammon, Yahoo! search product marketing manager said: “Yahoo! App Search not only makes it easy to find and download apps that you are looking for but also discover new apps."
