British cinema-goers should soon be able to book tickets to see a film through their Facebook accounts.
That's the aim of the country's biggest cinema chain, Odeon, as it aims to take its efforts at social media interaction with its customers to a new level.
It already offers free popcorn to film-goers who 'check in' at their local cinema using Facebook's location tool having bought tickets for a screening.
That move was in answer to rival cinema chain Vue, which also uses Facebook to let people check ticket availability for current films, and then click through to its website to make reservations.
For Facebook, it's a small step down the road towards persuading retailers of the benefits of its e-commerce facilities, which are already being adopted by several large American companies, according to Marketingmagazine.co.uk.
As we reported at the time, online clothing retailer Asos.com was the first company to offer British consumers a fully transactional Facebook store. Meanwhile, mobile telecoms company O2 is to follow suit, letting customers top up their phones via the company's Facebook page.
