The Google owned You Tube has retained its position as the most popular social media site, with a total of 11.6m unique users visiting the site in April from the latest figures released by Nielsen Online.

The nearest competitor Facebook, has taken second most popular site with 10.2m users, with an increase of 277% over the past year.

Nielsen Online also indicated that 2.7m users visited Slide who are the developers of applications such as Top Friends and SuperPoke, an increase of 108% compared to April last year.

Visitors to blogging site Wordpress increased by 128% to 2m unique users While other websites in the report have experienced overall growth, however visitors to MySpace have dropped by 31% year-on-year to 4.7m users.
