People using Microsoft Windows are now being asked to pick which browser they want to use to surf the internet.
Previously, the Windows operating system used Microsoft’s Internet Explorer browser as the default, but following a ruling by the European Commission, Microsoft has been forced to offer users a choice.
The commission deemed the company’s pre-installation of Internet Explorer was anti-competitive and so now users will face a choice of up to 12 browsers, including Internet Explorer, Chrome, Safari and Opera.
According to the Telegraph newspaper, Neelie Kroes, the EU’s competition commissioner said the move will benefit millions of consumers across Europe as they will now have a free choice about which browser they would prefer to use.
